Sponsorship Opportunities
We hope you are able to join with us to meet our mission --  to   serve as a resource for research and education for individuals and organizations in their quest to improve diversity and inclusion practices around the world.  There are specific opportunities such as research projects for the GDIB (Global D&I Benchmarks) especially as we prepare for the 2021 (our 4th update) edition; D&I research in general; our DEI Futures Initiative; development of user tools; translations; strengthening our website and its accessibility; conducting events all over the world; unrestricted funds; an expert directory and other ideas. We welcome your ideas as well.

Special Request to GDIB Users
As you know the GDIB is free to users upon signing the permission agreement. We are getting ready to update the GDIB and seek sponsors for this update. The GDIB is free to use AND we ask that users in the past or current users make a special effort to become a sponsor. In exchange we will include your organization logo and/or name on the 2021 edition and the website. Funds are needed now and on an ongoing basis to support the research and publishing of the 2021 edition. It will continue to be available to all for free — that will not change. However, if at all possible and if you or your organization is benefiting from the free GDIB please contact us about sponsoring.
Thank you very much.

DEMOCRACY IN CHAINS
by Nancy MacLean
Reviewer: Kay Iwata, GDIB Expert Panelist, President,
K. Iwata Associates, Inc. Union City, California, USA
Editor’s note: Although this book is largely about the United States, it has ramifications for other democracies around the world.
This is a great read for those of us who “think” we have been paying attention to US politics and find ourselves somewhat overwhelmed by what we are now witnessing in Washington. Not only are the concerns raised created by the behaviors and actions of Trump (for example: acceptance of and support from white supremacist groups under the banner of “nationalism”) but by his Cabinet and Supreme Court appointees and his supporters in Congress.
STORIES OF D&I BEST PRACTICES
First Article of an Important Series
LET'S END THE ILLUSION OF COMMUNICATING

by Lorelei Carobolante, The Centre Board of Directors and GDIB Expert Panelist, and President and CEO, G2nd Systems. Go here for her bio .
Editor's Note: Please take the time to read this article which is the first of a series. As you finish reading this we hope you will be even more convinced that the issues of communications are critically important.
We often take for granted that, when we are all speaking the same language, communication happens naturally. In fact, George Bernard Shaw once said that “the greatest problem in communication is the  illusion  that it has been accomplished." In today’s globally diverse workplace, in which native and non-native English speakers interact, cultural presumptions, accents, perceived tone and speech delivery often prevent the message from being received.

English may be today’s global workplace language, but non-native and native English speakers use English differently without realizing it, leading to a sense that communication has occurred—only to discover later that it was an  illusion .

NEW “HOME” FOR THE
FORUM ON WORKPLACE INCLUSION
DATES, RFP PROCESS TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON
We just returned from the Forum on Workplace Inclusion conference April 16 to 18, 2019 and – as in years’ past – it was an informative, well-run conference and one that we hope you will consider attending in 2020.

As you will recall from the past year –  go here to learn about the issues and The Centre’s position  – there were ideological differences between the University of Saint Thomas, a catholic institution, and the participation of members and employees of Planned Parenthood. The result was that St. Thomas University decided it could no longer own the Forum.

Fortunately the Forum has a new home –  Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota USA . The leaders of Augsburg College are very supportive and thrilled to be the conference’s new home.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE IN SEATTLE TACKLES TRUST ISSUES BETWEEN BLACK WOMEN AND WHITE WOMEN
The NW Diversity Learning Series, a 20-year educational resource in the Greater Seattle Area (Washington State, USA) will address the lack of trust between Black women and White women in its May 14 bi-monthly session.

“So much 'stuff' exists in the relationship space between Black women and White women,” writes EP Barbara Deane, “and we don’t talk about it much—at least not together. It’s time we did.”
