November 2,1928 – June 25, 2018

The Centre for Global Inclusion
The essence of the mission and work we do at The Centre is to share our wisdom so that we can all participate in increasing the quality of the work we do. Perhaps “wisdom” is too lofty a word. So just think of it as sharing your best work with a goal of helping us all get better at what we do.  There are many ways to share – writing articles, books, tweets, blogs; posting videos; making presentations, volunteering with organizations; and mentoring others. And, of course, volunteering for The Centre for Global Inclusion! Please share your wisdom. Here are 3 Calls for Proposals for conferences.

ACTIONS TO HELP ACHIEVE THESE GLOBAL D & I BENCHMARKS
Level 4 – Progressive
2.6 Leaders are involved in D&I initiatives, communicate the D&I strategy,
and provide recognition for D&I champions and advocates.  
2.7 Leaders hold themselves and others responsible for achieving the D&I goals and objectives.  

Level 3 – Proactive  
2.10 Leaders are knowledgeable about D&I and accept managing D&I as one of their responsibilities.

Global Diversity and Inclusion Benchmarks Expert Panelist Duncan Smith believes that normalising the conversation around D&I is a simple but essential strategy for embedding awareness of D&I and changing behaviours in organisations.  
 
“I’m a great believer in the power and impact of simple things carried out with focus and intention,“ says Smith,  Principal of ADC Associates Consulting. “In my work over the years with resources companies and other engineering-based organisations I’ve noticed that meetings at all levels have started with a ‘safety share’, often brought up as ‘who’s got a safety topic?’ That got me wondering about the impact of this simple practice on the culture of the organisation. I asked some of my clients how long they’d been starting meetings with a safety topic, and for most the answer was about 20 to 30 years. They said that in the past, companies just accepted that there would be serious safety issues -- resources (predominantly mining and oil & gas) is a dangerous business.”

INCLUSION ALLIES COALITION SPEAKS OUT
ON ZERO TOLERANCE IMMIGRATION POLICY
Note: This article is a link to the Inclusion Allies Coalition website. Although this article is oriented to the US, the message applies to many countries. The Centre has an Alliance with the IAC. Membership is free and open to all. There are many free resources on the IAC site.
The Inclusion Allies Coalition is a group of close to 400 organizations and individuals committed to diversity, equity and inclusion within organizations and society. We strive to advocate for and serve as allies to those who are marginalized by policies and practices that exclude, discriminate against or otherwise lead to people being treated unfairly. Founded in 2017 in response to the massive polarization on a number of socio-political issues exacerbated by the 2016 US Presidential election, the Coalition carefully considers the positions that it takes. We believe that inclusion means that we consider divergent viewpoints and attempt to bridge our differences with greater understanding and acceptance. We feel that we must speak up as a united body when there are situations that jeopardize the values of inclusion.

DEI FUTURES PROJECT
FUTURE TRENDS CARDS COMING SOON
At The DEI Futures Project event in April , The FutureWork Institute, The Centre’s co-creator in this project, agreed to share with Project participants the trends used to inform our thinking. The FutureWork Institute agreed to send one or two cards a week so that they could be read and used in an effective way. We will also post them on The Centre website as a User Tool. Please note that these “trends cards” will have a copyright on them, but you are free to use them in your work and share them with others with credit as indicated on each of the cards. An example of one is shown above.

We will not be emailing the futures trends cards to the entire GDIB/Centre newsletter list, but they will be on The Centre’s website.
