Kay Iwata

Kay Iwata, President of K. Iwata Associates, Inc. is an internationally recognized and respected management consultant. She brings over 30 years of experience in strategic planning, assessment, training and development, executive coaching, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and leadership and management development. Kay has extensive experience in assessing organizational culture and developing strategic plans, change processes and interventions to transform organizations. She has been actively involved in all phases of implementation including systems design and training. Culture and leadership are two critical components to creating high-performance organizations. Organizational cultures need systems that focus on the capability to tap the full potential of all its employees.  Ms. Iwata developed an effective cultural assessment model, one that integrates the qualitative with the quantitative. The analysis directs actions and resources to areas of opportunities that maximize the ability of the organization to fully utilize its workforce. The second component is to identify, develop, engage and retain a talented pool of diverse talent. Ms. Iwata also provides one-on-one executive coaching to help develop current and future leaders to lead successfully in a diverse environment. In addition to coaching one on one, she has a wealth of experience with organizations focused on leadership and team development.  She has served on the Leadership California Board of Directors and is on their Executive Leadership Council and serves as a faculty member. She also served on The Center for Asian Pacific American Women’s Board of Trustees where she was a past president. Currently she is on their leadership program faculty.  In addition, she is on the faculty for NACUBO’s (National Association of College and University Business Officers) Fellows Program directed at up and coming finance leaders in higher education. K. Iwata Associates, Inc. sponsored and directed a groundbreaking research project to identify the characteristics of diversity competent leaders and managers.  This research has added to the field in terms of knowledge and tools to increase DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) competence in organizations.  The findings of the research are found in her book, The POWER of Diversity: Five Essential Competencies for Leading a Diverse Workforce.
